Style: In Defence of... Metabolism
Wed 22 March 2017, 19:00 – 20:00 GMT
A series of talks looking at style. In this fourth talk, Penny Lewis, lecturer at the Scott Sutherland School of Architecture in Aberdeen, defends Metabolism.
Metabolism favoured efficiency over ornamentation, creating buildings that could organically grow in tandem with the needs of their inhabitants. But it was very short-lived, accused of being hopelessly naïve and techno-utopian. Here Penny Lewis champions the style.
Style: In Defence of... is a series of talks at the Soane Museum examining the content and context of style. Across six talks, in partnership with Machine Books and Future Cities Project, leading experts defend a style, confronting us with new ideas for contemplation and critique. Each talk lasts 30 minutes, followed by an audience discussion.
