Dr Aylin Ates
Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) in Strategy and the Director of Postgraduate Teaching at Strathclyde Business School, Hunter Centre for Entrepreneurship. I am a member of the University Senate and the Faculty Academic Committee. I have a Ph.D. from the University of Strathclyde, which investigated strategy processes in UK manufacturing SMEs, and a BSc. in Industrial Engineering from Istanbul Technical University, Faculty of Management.
My research is focused on exploring strategic management processes to enhance organisational capabilities, resilience, and performance within manufacturing SMEs and ecosystems. I have led several major research projects while attracting a total of £690k in research funding as Principal Investigator or Co-Investigator. My research projects have been funded by industry, the European Commission, EPSRC, SPRINT (jointly funded by European Space Agency, UKRI & SFC), the British Council (Newton Fund), Innovate UK, Scottish Funding Council, and Highlands and Islands Enterprise. My research was mentioned in public media such as The Herald, BBC Radio Scotland, and the Scotsman. My research is deeply embedded in business practice, and I regularly engage with senior managers through qualitative, rich case studies and longitudinal research methods. I regularly collaborate with SMEs and large firms for research and teaching such as Linn Products Ltd, AAC ClydeSpace, Weir Group, GSK, Astra Zeneca, Ford, JLR, Fishers, and Rolls Royce.
I am currently a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a member of the Chartered Management Institute and the British Academy of Management.
