Description

Clapham South station tunnel

Open to the public in July 1944 and one of eight deep level shelters that exist across London, Clapham South has an extraordinary history waiting to be uncovered. 180 steps link ground level to a fascinating past that saw Londoners shelter during the war, Caribbean migrants arriving on the Empire Windrush in 1948 and a transformation into a Bed &Breakfast accomodation for the Festival of Britain. Descend into this subterranean shelter for a truly incredible journey that tells the story of deep level life.
