Event description

Description

China is increasingly important for UK business as an export market, and also as a partner for manufacturing, innovation and creative collaborations.

The intellectual property (IP) risks of doing business in China are genuine and should be considered in the early stages of any business opportunity. But China’s IP and legal systems have now developed to a level where risks can be mitigated in almost all cases. Getting IP right is crucial if companies are to benefit from China’s growth.

Barnsley Business and Innovation Centre Limited is delighted to be hosting this prestigious event in partnership with the Intellectual Property Office and our good friend Jane Lambert from http://www.4-5.co.uk/

Tom Duke – the UK’s IP Attaché to China, based in the British Embassy Beijing – supports over 200 companies each year from across the UK. This includes advising companies and their boards on strategies to mitigate the IP risk in China projects, and dealing with infringement and other problems as they arise.

Tom will share practical tips to ensure your China venture has the best possible chance of success. Tom’s talk will include:

  • The main IP risks of doing business in China, and how can this affects exporting, manufacturing, joint research and other projects
  • Know before you go: Practical steps to mitigate IP risk, including IP registrations, China contract best-practice and structuring relationships with Chinese partners
  • Don’t panic! What do if things go wrong
