Success with Sentences - Grappling with Grammar and Embedding Grammar
An outstanding opportunity to revisit 'Grappling with Grammar' and experience our new course 'Embedding Grammar'.
Grappling with Grammar is Primary English's signature training session and has been delivered nationally and internationally to 100% good or better feedback. The course empowers teachers to take the content of the 2014 National Curriculum, to grapple with it on a personal level and then experience practical ways to teach it in the classroom. We are delighted to be able to deliver this course once again in the Coventry and Warwickshire area, this time with its companion course, Embedding Grammar. This new course takes grammatical subject knowledge a step further, so that delegates explore ways to embed high quality grammar teaching in wider units of work and across the curriculum.
In recognition of varying levels of confidence with teaching grammar, we are offering these courses as three different options:
Grappling with grammar morning only - a half day course aimed at improving grammatical subject knowledge 9.00 - 12.00
Embedding grammar afternoon only- a half day course for teachers with good subject knowledge who are looking for ways to embed grammar in their everyday literacy teaching 1.00 - 4.00
Success with Sentences: Grappling with grammar and Embedding Grammar full day - the combined courses covering grammatical subject knowledge and ways to embed grammar in everyday literacy teaching. 9.00 - 4.00

This is a new course based on work completed in schools to improve reading and writing through contextualised grammar teaching. High quality texts are used as grammatical models throughout this course meaning that teachers are able to see grammatical structures in context, explore ways to use these models with children and then replicate them in writing. This course is the perfect companion to Grappling with Grammar but is also suitable to teachers with good existing subject knowledge who are looking for ways to enhance their teaching of grammar.
Both elements of this course will be delivered by Rachel Clarke, Director at Primary English Education. Rachel is an experienced trainer who also writes regularly for publications including Teach Primary magazine. If you are unable to attend this course but would like Rachel to deliver this training in your school please contact us via this page (see below).
