The stakes can be very high when conflict arises within a family business.

The problems are seldom just financial and legal, which is what a court or arbitral body will focus on.

Instead mediation can address issues such as strategic decision making, management structure, succession planning, and conflicting expectations.

Important family and personal relationships and serious and debilitating rifts can also be repaired.

Rebecca Attree is an experienced civil and commercial mediator who has also managed a family-owned property development business . Drawing on this experience, the seminar will explain the benefits of using mediation to resolve family business disputes and how to get the most from the process.

The seminar will also examine how mediation can help to preserve or remodel relationships within and around the

family business. Topics that will be discussed include:

- Who should attend the mediation sessions? - How should I prepare for the mediation?

- How does the process work?

- How can I get the most out of the sessions?

- What kind of outcomes can I expect?

- Can I use mediation to plan the future direction of the business - including inheritance planning?

- Are there situations where mediation might not work?

There will be plenty of scope for audience participation and raising specific questions about the issues that family businesses face.

After the seminar drinks will be served and there will be an opportunity for networking.

The event attracts one hour cpd point recognised by the Civil Mediation Council.
