Event description

Description

Join us at Wetherby Races family day race meeting for 7 horse races and one mascot race, the Mascot Gold Cup, sponsored by Poundland!

This is the 15th Mascot Gold Cup, which set the Guinness World Record for the Most Mascots in a Race back in 2015 - you can check out a video of golden highlights covering the past 14 years' of the Mascot Gold Cup on the Sue Ryder website.

Get involved in this year's event - which is set to be bigger and better than ever - and have a great day out at Wetherby Races while helping us at Sue Ryder continue providing care to people when they need us the most. And with our new partnership with Poundland we have some great £1 offers to help people get involved in 2020.

There are four ticket options:

Standard Entry (bring your own mascot) - for those that may want to raise sponsorship money for their own chosen charity rather than Sue Ryder or for those who cannot commit to pledging a minimum £100 sponsorship money for Sue Ryder.

Entry (including mascot hire) - for those that may want to raise sponsorship money for their own chosen charity rather than Sue Ryder or for those who cannot commit to pledging a minimum £100 sponsorship money for Sue Ryder and would also like to hire a mascot. A catalogue can be emailed to you, once your entry is confirmed.

Entry with fundraising pledge plus mascot hire - for anyone committing to pledge a minimum of £100 sponsorship money for Sue Ryder and who would like to borrow one of our available mascots. We have approximately 50 mascots available on a first come first served basis. A catalogue will be emailed to you to select from, once your entry is confirmed.

Entry with fundraising pledge - for anyone committing to pledge a minimum of £100 sponsorship money for Sue Ryder and who have their own mascot.

For all entries, mascots get two complimentary tickets for the day (one for themselves and one for a friend) as well as more half price tickets for the day as required.

What to expect on the day

Mascots first take part in the Mascot Parade in the official parade ring where punters can place their bets on their favourites. A number of prizes are up for grabs during the Mascot Parade, including Best Mascot on parade.

Following the parade, there is a one-minute mascot warm-up lead by 'Pound Hound' from or sponsors Poundland before the race itself.

Mascots run the final furlong in front of the cheering grandstands; that's one furlong (220 yards) and six small fences including the 'open ditch' and 'water jump'.

Mascot benefits

Mascots will be sent two complimentary race day passes (one for themselves and another for a helper) and can purchase unlimited extra half-price tickets (if ordered in advance) for supporters, colleagues and friends – making the event an ideal corporate, community group or family day out.

Under-16s get in free if accompanied by an adult.

The sooner you sign up, the more time your organisation will be promoted on our Sue Ryder web page, so why not grab your credit card and sign up now?

Interested, but no mascot? Get in touch!

We have a ‘stable’ of mascots that can be 'adopted' for the day on a first-come-first-served basis.

Keen to fundraise for another charity?

We know that many good causes have mascots so we are allowing them to compete in the Mascot Gold Cup and keep all the sponsorship money they raise, provided they pay the £40 entry fee to Sue Ryder.

FAQs

Is there an age limit?

Our terms and conditions state participants should be 16 but in the past we have made exceptions to this if a disclaimer is signed, so do get in touch with us if this is the case.

How will I receive my two complimentary tickets?
These will be mailed out in the participants' pack.

What time do I need to be there?

The Wetherby Racecourse and Conference Centre gates open at noon, please head for the Paddock Grandstand Entrance. The mascot parade starts at around 1:10pm and we ask Mascots to arrive at least 30 minutes before that to sign in and get ready. The first horse race is usually at around 2:20pm and then the Mascot Gold Cup is around 2:35pm.

I don’t have a costume but really want to take part...

No problem - we have a stable of mascots that you can choose from, all of who would love a run out with you at the worlds largest mascot race. If you email lindsey.mcmanus@suerydercare.org , we can send you the catalogue of available mascots.

How can I contact the organiser with any questions?
Please contact Andrew Wood at andrew.wood@sueryder.org or call 01535 640 176.
