About this event

  • Event lasts 1 hour

Are you going anywhere nice on your holidays? Want to know more about how working-class people in Edwardian Manchester would have answered that question? Or how this connects to the suffragette movement and the fight for the vote?

Join us for a lunchtime talk at the Pankhurst Museum to learn about the surprisingly long history of summer holidays, including wakes and summer fairs, and the ways in which the suffragettes used the summertime for their campaigns. Expect industrial and social history, some canny campaigning, a few steam-powered swings, and a fortune-telling pig!

Knotted handkerchieves are optional.

Frequently asked questions

Is there parking on-site?

We don't have any parking at the museum, unfortunately. The nearest car park is NCP Grafton Street (charges apply - Blue Badge parking is available on Floor 1 and there is a lift).

Is there somewhere I can leave my bike?

We have bike stands for visitors in the garden at the rear of the property.

Is your venue accessible?

We pride ourselves on giving a warm welcome to all visitors, but acknowledge that due to being an historical listed building the physical layout of the museum might be challenging for some. https://www.pankhurstmuseum.com/accessibility-statement

Is this really the building where the suffragette movement started?

It sure is!
