Sugar Smart ‘Train The Trainer’ Session
Thu 25 May 2017, 10:00 – 13:00 BST
Sugar Smart ‘train the trainer’ session
For who? Practitioners working with children and families in supplementary schools across Kensington and Chelsea
Children across the UK are eating three times more sugar than the maximum daily limit recommended by health experts! This is not good news as too much sugar can lead to tooth decay and a range of health problems including diabetes, obesity, heart disease and some cancers.
Organisations working with children and families in community settings play an important role in promoting healthy eating and fostering ‘Sugar Smart’ habits. This training session is being organised as part of the Go Golborne Sugar Smart campaign to help equip colleagues working with children and families in Supplementary Schools to deliver fun, interactive workshops on the theme of sugar reduction.
Delivered by qualified nutritionists from Mytime Active, the session will enable participants to run activities with children and parents to:
- Communicate the key facts about sugar, including guideline daily amounts and the health impact of consuming too much
- Explain how to spot high sugar food and drinks and understand food labels
- Identify key ‘swaps’ we can all make to help reduce the amount of sugar in our diets
- Share information resources containing recipe ideas and further top tips
