Learn more about suicide, understand when someone is at risk, how to talk directly about suicide and how to offer practical support.

About this Event

On average one person a week dies by suicide in Cumbria. But suicide is preventable – not inevitable – and we can all gain knowledge and skills in suicide prevention which one day might be a lifesaver.

Our online training sessions are aimed at anyone who wants to learn more about the myths and facts surrounding suicide, understand how to know when someone is at risk, how to talk directly and comfortably about suicide, and what we can all do to offer practical support.

This online session last 60 mins and is delivered via Zoom for up to 16 participants by one of our skilled and experienced suicide prevention trainers. Participants also receive a PDF course workbook, course manual, and signposting resource.

The course is scheduled for an hour and we do ask that participants read the pre-course materials and complete our pre-registration form.

Safety statement

Safety of our participants is a priority for us.

- Suicide is a sensitive and potentially confronting subject for many people. We will be discussing suicide in a sensitive way but it is important to acknowledge it could be triggering or upsetting for some.

- We ask that participants read any pre-course materials sent out.

- We would ask you to identify someone that you could talk to if you need either during or after the session.

- If you are struggling with the content or need to talk, you can make use of the private chat function and contact the allocated support trainer.

- The trainers will also be available after the session.

- We do ask you to keep your camera on so we can make sure that people are safe and ok. If you do need to turn off for any reason if you could make contact with the allocated support trainer.

- It is also important to stress this is a brief information based session and not a forum to discuss our own personal experiences
