Course overview
This course teaches and practices the skills and knowledge needed to identify someonewho may be thinking about suicide and competently intervene to help create suicide-safety as a first aid approach.
The course is taught using tutor-facilitated Socratic learning, tutor-led role-play, mini-lectures, group work and audio-visual presentations.
No previous experience or training is required. Participants will be asked to self-reflect and empathise with a young person having thoughts of suicide.
Learning outcomes:
Suicide behaviour; reasons and magnitude of the community health problem.
Role of the carer in managing suicide interventions; different roles with different young people
Understand approaches and process of suicide intervention including desired outcomes
Understand the importance of self-reflection and personal impact when working with suicide
Eligibility for a funded training place
This training has been funded by East Sussex County Council as is available to staff, volunteers and carers working with vulnerable people in East Sussex.
