Suicide First Aid: Understanding Suicide Intervention, Surrey

Course overview

The Suicide First Aid through Understanding Suicide Intervention course gives learners the knowledge and tools to understand that suicide is one of the most preventable deaths and some basic skills can help someone with thoughts of suicide stay safe from their thoughts and stay alive.

A 1-day training solution teaching suicide intervention skills The course has been accredited by City & Guilds of London. Upon satisfactory completion participants attain 6 NQF credits at level 4. The qualification costs £85* per learner (optional and extra to subsidised place)

The course is comprised of 4 parts, each 90 minutes duration, delivered virtually. The programme teaches and practices the skills and knowledge needed to identify someone who may be thinking about suicide and competently intervene to help create suicide-safety as a first aid approach.

Learning outcomes:

• Suicide behaviour; reasons and magnitude of the community health problem.

• Role of the carer in managing suicide interventions; different roles with different people
• Understand approaches and process of suicide intervention including desired outcomes
• Understand the importance of self-reflection and personal impact when working with suicide and people at risk

Funded Places:

To be elgibile for a place, you must currently be living or working in Surrey. We will require your address or proof of work upon registation.

Pre-training requirement

No previous experience or training is necessary. Participants will be asked to self-reflect and empathise with a person having thoughts of suicide. There is no expectation of participants to share their personal experiences.

Refunds

If you need to cancel your booking, please let us know as soon as possible. Bookings will be transferred or refunded within the following policy:

Less than 3 working notice: No refund

4-10 working days’ notice: 50% refund

Over 10 working days’ notice: 100 refund

Notes regarding this session

-Please note for this specific session, ticket sales stop 3 days before the start of the course date (ie. Friday morning), so please purchase your place ahead of time.

-If you have a ticket for the course, you will receive a link to the Zoom session Friday before the course, via email, so please doublecheck the email address you add when filling in your ticket. You should receive a confirmation email shortly after booking a ticket.

Please ensure you have Zoom installed and working ahead of the session. We are unable to issue refunds for those who are unable to attend due to technical difficulties.
