Content and Format:

Understanding Suicide Intervention (USI) is a 6 hour unit programme which is part of the Understanding Suicide series provided by Suicide-Safer London CIC, accredited and developed by City and Guilds of London for the Health and Care Sector Skills Council which sits on the Qualification Credit Framework for the United Kingdom. Taught over 6 hours using tutor facilitated Socratic learning, tutor-led role-play, mini lectures, group work and audio visual presentations. This is a highly interactive and emotionally engaging learning experience. The learning outcomes have been designed to allow for teaching to be updated and take account of emerging research based practice. The terminology used assumes a generic audience that can accommodate both lay workers and professionals.

Learning Outcomes:

Suicide behaviour; reasons and magnitude of the community health problem
Role of carer in managing suicide interventions; different roles with different people
Understand approaches/process of suicide intervention including desired outcomes
Understand the importance of self-reflection and personal impact when working with suicide and people at risk
