Event description

Description

A suicidal person may not ask for help, but that doesn't mean they don’t want help. People who take their lives don't want to die, they just want to stop hurting. Suicide prevention starts with recognizing the warning signs and taking them seriously. This 30 min talk will be followed by a Q&A session and will cover:

- Be suicide alert; identify people who have thoughts of suicide
- Understand the reasons behind thoughts of suicide and the reasons for living

- Access risk and safety; develop a plan to increase the safety of the person at risk of suicide

- Recognise invitations for help
- Recognise potential barriers of seeking help
- Recognise important aspects of suicide prevention including life-promotion and self-care
- Become aware of effective suicide intervention models
- Link people with college and community resources
