Summer Coding Camp - Scratch and Robotics Immersive
Event Information
Description
Launch your kid’s adventure into the digital world!
Classes are held Monday – Thursday from 10 am to 4 pm.
Course Description
Our Scratch programming course builds a strong foundation in computer science and creative problem solving through making animations and games. Over the course of four days, your child will learn to create storylines, program characters and how to construct their own games.
This course is perfect for beginners and experienced young coders. Each lesson starts at a gentle pace with lots of extension activities to challenge even the most adept young programmer.
We will starting each day teaching touch typing, a key skill in any programmer’s life. Coders will find their way around the keyboard playing fun typing games and competing in exciting challenges.
We will also make our own game controllers with Makey Makey: a full programme of building and coding is awaiting our young programmers.
In our robotics sessions we will be exploring LEGO WeDo and building robotic LEGO models! LEGO WeDo helps build science, technology and maths (STEM) knowledge while incorporating lessons in language arts. We will learn about Ozobots, build our Mbots, and use our improved Scratch skills to programme our LEGO WeDo creations.
This adventure is fun, entertaining, creative, and most importantly, valuable as children will develop essential computational thinking and creative problem-solving skills. In less than a week, your child will have more experience with computing than many children have in a year at school.
Achievements and outcomes
Our teachers will actively record your child’s work throughout the camp and share it with you through Class Dojo - an app which allows you to see photos of your child’s work, be involved in your child’s progress and message the teachers directly if you have any questions. The children will also receive a certificate of completion on the final day.
