About this event

Two day Sailing Course for children aged 8+

The two day sailing course is held during summer half term on Cheddar Reservoir.

The course is a two day course running most weeks in the summer half term. A parents pr responible adult need to stay on site with their children - Or if local must be contactable and available at all times. - there is free WiFi, a fridge, kettle and Microwave that can be used.

The club is an RYA Recognised Training Center and the course will be run following RYA guidelines for instructor student ratio, syllabus and safety.

The club will not have any food on sale during these days so a packed lunch will be required.

Tickets for members and non members are available. Please select stage 1 for beginners or Stage 2 for progression

RYA Youth Sailing Scheme Stage 1

For novices or as a refresher for those returning to dinghy sailing.

The course follows the RYA youth sailing syllabus and aims at developing confidence and competence of the participants while sailing under instruction. Participants will assist with rigging and launching, and have a basic understanding of how a boat sails, and gain experience of steering and handling.

RYA Youth Sailing Scheme Stage 2

For more experienced sailors who have completed stage 1

Participants will gain a range of sailing skills and background knowledge and it will help them become a more confident sailor. They will be able to rig their own boat, tack around, stop and control speed, will learn to capsize and understand the No Go Area with a possibility of progressing onto some stage 3 topics like sailing double handed boats and an introduction to racing.

What Do I Need to Go Sailing?

The course provides all equipment that you will need, wetsuits, buoyancy aid and spray jacket. In the summer, a change of clothes and shorts can be worn - subject to the weather conditions.

You will need to provide shoes that can get wet (training shoes or pumps will do) and a towel. The club has lockable changing rooms and hot showers. Teas and coffees and be purchased at the club Most participants bring a packed lunch

The course runs from 10:00 to 16:00 each day.

How Much Will it Cost?

The two day course costs £140 with a reduction, £120 for BCYC members. Participants will receive an RYA log book and if they wish to purchase RYA Sailing Handbook they will be available for £10

Payment is by card when you purchase your ticket and you can cancel at any time up to seven days in advance with a transaction charge from our ticket provider.

BCYC exists to help people enjoy a range of watersports, whatever your ability or age. Anyone is welcome to join us afloat at Cheddar Reservoir near Axbridge. Although the club atmosphere is relaxed, informal and friendly we aim to provide a professional environment for teaching a range of watersports including Sailing, Windsurfing, Powerboating, Stand-Up Paddleboards and Sit-On Kayaks.
