Event description

Description

Much has been said about greening the city but what does this mean for garden designers? What can we do on smaller scales to create sustainable green infrastructure in private residential gardens and what might we learn from public open space and community gardening.

Monday 13th May

Mark Patterson trained as an ecologist and is the forage officer for the London Beekeepers Association, a former DEFRA Bee Health Inspector and owner at Apicultural, a business working with corporates and communities to invest in natural capital and improve the london environment for pollinators. Mark has a wealth of knowledge on gardening for wildlife and bees in particular are his focus. As well as gardening for bees Mark is an active wild bee recorder and currently delivers bee identification training courses for the field studies council.

Kenny Raybould is Horticultural Manager at Covent Garden in the very heart of London's West End. He has a unique job and will be telling us how he manages one of the busiest areas in central London across the year, especially the plants and the horticulture that he engages with and how to cope with so many visitors.

Monday 10th June

Dusty Gedge is currently the President of the European Federation of Green Roof Associations and founder of Livingroofs.org He is a recognised authority, designer and consultant on green roofs and green infrastructure and works with Gary Grant for the Green Infrastructure Consultancy. Dusty is also co-author with John Little of the 'Smallpscale green roof guide' that has helped lots of small roofs sprout across the globe on sheds garages and other small buildings.

A second speaker will be announced shortly.
