About this event

This engaging group of superb jazz players will play a selection of well-known standards and original compositions, drawing the audience into an intimate world of foot tapping swing, gorgeous ballads and exciting improvisation.

Cambridge based jazz multi-instrumentalist Tim Boniface works primarily on saxophones and piano, but also on trumpet, flugelhorn, clarinet and more. A leader of his own ensembles and projects - especially his quartet with whom he has recorded two critically acclaimed jazz suites ‘The Eight Words’ and ‘The Infant’ - Tim has also collaborated with many remarkable musicians on the UK jazz scene, including Tony Kofi, Polly Gibbons & James Pearson, Scott Hamilton, Tara Minton, Beth Rowley, and Irene Serra, with whom he has developed a project based on the music of Nancy Wilson and Dexter Gordon. Tim is also a priest and theologian, and is Chaplain and Fellow of Girton College Cambridge.

Guitarist Will Arnold-Forster won the Yamaha jazz scholarship in 2016, and has since become one of the UKs most respected mainstream jazz guitarists, appearing regularly at the best jazz venues across the country. With a combination of impeccable technique, a fine sense of swing and a remarkable knowledge of the world of jazz guitar, Will is an absolute delight to listen to in any setting, and especially in this intimate trio setup. Tim and Will have been working together since 2017, their sounds and approaches complimenting one another beautifully.

Double bassist Ed Babar is a London based jazz and orchestral double bassist and educator who has collaborated regularly with Tim Boniface for the last 10 years, most notably on the albums ’The Eight Words’ and ’The Infant'. Developer and director of the remarkable ‘Blues and Roots’ ensemble, which takes the music of Charles Mingus into schools and community settings, Ed has also developed remarkably fruitful creative partnership with jazz harp and vocal phenomenon Tara Minton. Their recent duo album ’Two for the Road' was featured recently on BBC Radio 3 and has received rave reviews. Ed is an in-demand player for his powerful and authentic approach to jazz playing rooted expertly in the tradition of the great jazz bassists.
