Reimagining the still life

Over this week long course students will engage with a complex and dynamic studio still life set up to create imaginative and original paintings. Students will be encouraged to create works which explore, and bring together, mark, colour, and form in original and inventive compositions. At the start of the week students will be guided through a series of exercises using a variety of materials designed to facilitate the development of a unique personal visual language. These preliminary exercises will be developed further using paint to discover interesting and unusual ways of depicting aspects of the everyday.

This class is suitable for all levels

All necessary materials will be provided and light lunches and refreshments will be available. Please notify us at time of booking if you have any dietary requirements.

Artists's Bio

Val is an award winning artist and tutor who has taught painting and drawing extensively across all levels from beginners to advanced. She is currently Course leader for the One Day Painting course at Leith School of Art and teaches painting on the BA programme at Edinburgh College of Art. She enjoys the dynamics of teaching and working in the studio and is passionate about enabling students to discover their own artistic voice.
