Event description

Description

This week–long Summer School will introduce students to the use of computing in exploring mathematical ideas. David Vaccaro will teach them the basics of mathematical software Wolfram Mathematica before challenging them to produce their own project, working individually or in small groups to research and investigate a problem of their choice.

By the end of the first day students will be working on their projects, with all the necessary tools to get started. Individually or in small groups, they will write their own programmes to investigate their chosen subject and will be able to test their models with real–world data. Support and guidance is available throughout and there will be several demonstrations during the week of different tools, mathematical techniques and aspects of the program which may be useful to their project.

This workshop is strictly for 16–18 year-olds and will include a 45 minute lunch break each day. Students should bring lunch and a drink, pens, pencils, a USB memory stick and a calculator.

Refunds can only be issued for tickets cancelled at least two weeks (14 calendar days) in advance of the start date. Please note that this supersedes our normal event terms and conditions.
