Event description

Description

The 1,2,3... system we use to write down numbers is called ‘base 10’, but what is a base and how many others are there? Join Zoe Griffiths to find out, in a hands-on journey through the intriguing world of number bases. First we will stop at three-world counting with trees, before voyaging on to see other number bases that have far reaching applications from magic tricks to computing.

Please note: This workshop is strictly for 10–12 year-olds. There will be a short break during the workshop and a drink and a small snack will be provided. Students should bring their own snack if they have any allergies

The Mathematics Summer School workshops are based on Ri Mathematics Masterclasses. Students who have attended a Masterclass series which included a session on a similar topic may have already seen some of the content in this workshop. Please contact us on summerschools@ri.ac.uk with any questions.

Refunds can only be issued for tickets cancelled at least two weeks (fourteen calendar days) in advance of the event date. Please note that this supersedes our normal event terms and conditions.
