Event description

Description

Mathematics and art have a long historical relationship, with many of the complex patterns seen decorating buildings around the world having their basis in geometry. In this sessions students will investigate which polygons can be tiled to form regular and semi-regular (archimedean) tessellations, going on to use some of these to create beautiful geometric patterns similar to those found in architecture and Islamic design.

This workshop is strictly for 10–12 year-olds. There will be a short break during the workshop and a drink and a small snack will be provided. Students should bring their own snack if they have any allergies

This workshop is based on an Ri Mathematics Masterclass. Students who have attended a Masterclass series which included a session on a similar topic may have already seen some of the content in this workshop. Please contact us on summerschools@ri.ac.uk with any questions.

Refunds can only be issued for tickets cancelled at least two weeks (fourteen calendar days) in advance of the event date. Please note that this supersedes our normal event terms and conditions.
