Love sketching or want to give it a try? Come capture the charm of nature and Victorian architecture with a friendly group of fellow creatives!

We’ll meet in a quiet, inspiring location to draw from life — nature, architecture, passersby, whatever catches your eye. You’re welcome to sketch independently or ask questions and get gentle guidance as you go. Whether you come to practise, unwind, or simply enjoy drawing in good company, you’re in the right place.

We are meeting near Cafe Castan. The cafe serves primarily as a meeting spot, so if it's dry, we'll move to one of the lawns or benches nearby. In case it rains we will be able to sit and sketch on their terrasse.

This will be the first in the series of relaxed outdoor sketching sessions this summer. Future events will take place around Canton, Ely, Fairwater, and Llandaff and will be announced here on Eventbrite as well as on my website: https://galesandjackdaws.tilda.ws/sketching2025summer

Do I need to be good at drawing to join?

Not at all! This session is open to all levels — from curious beginners to experienced sketchers.

What to bring?

Bring your own sketching or painting materials (e.g. sketchbook, pencils, pens, watercolours), and anything you need to be comfortable outdoors (water, sunscreen, a stool or blanket, snacks, etc.).

Is this a class or workshop?

It’s not a formal class — just a relaxed meet-up. You’re free to draw what you like. If you’d like feedback or guidance, I’ll be happy to help.

Will materials be provided?

No, this is a bring-your-own-materials event.

Can I bring a friend who doesn't want to draw?

Of course — as long as they’re happy to be part of a quiet, focused atmosphere.
