Event description

Description

On 2nd September 2017, the Richard Austen Butler Debating Society invites you to our first Summer Social.

We are humbled to announce that we will be joined by former Deputy Speaker, The Right Honourable Sir Alan Haselhurst, who gave forty years service to Saffron Walden as Member of Parliament and is a political successor to Rab Butler.

Join us for an afternoon of parody debating activities designed to amuse and confound even the most self-assured speakers, and a three-course lunch menu with Sir Alan Haselhurst at the Bluebell Inn, High Street, Hempstead, CB10 2PD from 12:00 - 15:00pm.

This event is hosted by kind permission of Peter and Jem Hoskins, who were personal friends to Rab and Mollie Butler.

The menu consists of an assortment of chicken satay skewers; goat's cheese & mushroom arancini; pork & beef meatballs; and olives & parma ham starters.

These will then be followed by a range of smoked salmon, lemon and cream cheese; honey glazed smoked gammon, beef tomato and mustard mayo; and roast vegetable & spiced hummus sandwiches, accompanied by fries; potato, egg and chive salad; and coleslaw sides.

To finish, guests will be treated to chocolate brownie and caramel sauce; and carrot cake and walnut desserts.

Please email rabdebating@outlook.com should you have any dietary requirements.

We are also pleased to say that there will be a raffle with select prizes on display, with single tickets at £1 and a strip at £5. These will be purchasable on the day.
