Summer Solstice Camp
Sat, 24 Jun 2017, 08:30 – Sun, 25 Jun 2017, 03:00 BST
How do you like the idea of waking up to the Summer of 2017 and un-zipping your tent to massive views across the both sides of the Borderlands?
To celebrate the first year of Reiver Guiding and a brand new website, we will be offering this unique 2 day mini Solstice expedition into the heart of the Northumberland National Park and the neighboring Scottish Borderlands.
Starting in the Harthope Valley in Northumberland, we will head up onto Northumberland’s highest hill, Cheviot (815m) and then join the Pennine Way and drop down from Auchope Cairn to the Mountain Rescue Hut for refreshments before making our way up onto The Schill (601m) This is where we will set up camp for the night (On the Scottish side). We will rest up for the evening, where you will learn of local legends and the history of the area.(Maybe whilst holding a wee glass of an alcoholic beverage)
The next morning we will continue on our way along the north Pennine route, and finally drop off the ridge and down to the village of Yetholm. Here we will finish the walk with a stop off at the “Border” Pub/restaurant and we will learn of the Yetholm Gypsies.
The first day will be approx 8 miles in length and the second around 6 miles. The ground conditions can be very muddy underfoot during and after wet periods, but quickly dry. Once the ascent and decent of Cheviot is done the rest of the route is more or less rolling grassy hills and easy paths.
This weekend foray is also open to families with children (Over 10 year old) as the pace will be steady.
If you fancy the thought of starting Summer in the great outdoors please contact us and we will be happy to give more detail and provide a list of things you would need for the weekend.(Some kit can be borrowed from us, for example tents)
