About this event

  • 2 hours

Join us for our inaugural session in our Summer Talks series offering talks on nature, growing and ecology. At this free talk in June, we will welcome James Skillicorn for an informative and humorous discussion on earthworms.

James will demonstrate how to set up and look after a wormery, and demonstrate how worms can turn household food waste into fabulous compost. He will talk about the environmental importance of earthworms and what we can do to help them. There will be a chance to get involved in some hands-on activities, and plenty of time for questions. Families are welcome. Refreshments will be provided.

Originally from Zimbabwe, James now lives in West Sussex. He is a retired primary teacher. His interests include wildlife, photography, lino-printing, gardening, Victorian stained-glass and storytelling. He has always been passionate about wildlife and this has fuelled his resolve to raise awareness about climate-related issues. He is a member of several green action groups. He has a keen interest in soil health and the vital roles that earthworms play. Locally known as "the worm man", his fascinating talks are fun, and hands-on. He will be bringing his wormery (and loads of worms!) with him.
