Description

Dates: 6 - 9 September 2017

Times: 10 - 4.30pm, lunch 1.00 - 2.00pm

Level: Advanced beginners and intermediate.

Tutor: Caron Penney

Assisted by: Katharine Swailes (Thursday - Saturday)

Course Description. This is a lively and varied workshop. It is designed to develop and encourage weavers to look deeper into the technique of tapestry weaving. The course relies on both experienced weavers and new students to create an exciting dialogue. Experimentation, dexterity and a sense of fun and risk taking are encouraged. Students will investigate one or more specific techniques such as, colour theory, overlay, hatching, shaping, lettering, and curvaceous lines. These techniques have been in a series of workshops avaliable throughout the year - if you missed these or wish to re-visit them, this is your perfect opportunity.

Participants can enjoy finding out more about tapestry weaving in a relaxed friendly environment. This is a workshop for beginners - intermediate students and has limited project based work. The tutor will encourage you to develop your weaving skills with some references to designing for tapestry.

There will be a series of demonstrations to help the students progress through the four day workshop. Beginners will be guided through techniques, starting with warping up a frame.

The course will be run in the Mill Studio which is alongside Weftfaced’s own studio and students will be able to see the ateliers during the class. The tutor will use resources from her studio which will include looms, books, yarns, and materials.

Please feel free to contact us in advance, especially if you are warping up prior to starting the workshop.

Refreshments will be available throughout the day in the small kitchenette.
