Mohila Ongon presents Sunday is Saree Day (+ Bangladeshi winter Phita event 2016)

This is a female only event to celebrate womanhood through both sarees and the Bangladeshi delicacy, Phita. There will be a variety of entertainment, stalls and activities including saree workshops and a fashion show as well as a drama performed in Sylheti, traditional Bengali music , dance and spoken Bengali poetry. Delicious food will also be available. This event encourages local women to get involved as part of Mohila Ongon Association’s ongoing aim to boost womens’ confidence and make them more proactive in the local community.
Mohila Ongon is a grass roots organisation which represents ethnic minority women predominantly of the Bangladeshi background. It was established in 2010, by a group of active women led by Ferdous Ahmed, in order to organize and promote women and women’s causes. It aims to increase its members’ involvement in their children’s education and participation in community affairs through developing skills, knowledge and promoting confidence of women in the locality. In pursuit of this, Mohila Ongon organises a wide range of activities, events and educational workshops/sessions.
