Sunday Lunch at Conock Manor, 29/05/16
Sun 29 May 2016, 11:00 – 16:00 BST
Derek Johns is one of Britain’s most distinguished picture experts, Head of the Old Master Paintings at Sotheby’s before setting up his gallery in St James’s. He is also a gardener, and atConock Manor, a house handsomely re-faced in the 1740s, has created a series of settings, from a water scene inspired byGiverny to a formal garden modelled on a favourite Dutch canvas. You will also step into conservatories which have exquisite collections of favourite flowers. Last – but on this Sunday certainly not least – Derek is a remarkable cook, winner of MasterChef in 1993. He and his wife Daphne have chosen to support the Museum’s appeal by giving Sunday lunch in their drawing room.
After lunch – and having immersed ourselves in the garden – we will travel the very short distance to his neighbours David and Venetia Morrison for tea. The Morrisons have commissioned a new classical house and begun a new garden.
