Description

Expression of Art Award – Sunday Jazz Concerts
The Conservatorium hotel has established a strong collaboration with the Conservatorium van Amsterdam; Amsterdam's University of the Arts, since the day of its opening in 2011. This award series emphasises the heritage and history of the building, which has been the house of the former Sweelinck Conservatory of Music from 1983 to 2008. This award will give four bands the opportunity to perform within the hotel and compete for the scholarship of €5000,- offered by the Conservatorium hotel. Like last year the Public Award of €750,- will be offered by Sennheiser, long term partner of the Conservatorium hotel. Join us for a Sunday Jazz Concert every last Sunday of the month from January until May and find out who will be the winner of the award during the Grand Finale in May.

The band
The third concert of the series will be a performance by the Hila Hutmacher Quintet on Sunday 29 March. Hila Hutmacher Quintet brings together five musicians who started their way at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. The international band members have different roots, from England, South Korea, Finland and Israel and through music they bring their own authentic background and formulate it into one piece of original music and improvisation.

As a jazz performer and a singer, Hila, who was born in Israel to an Argentinian father and Romanian mother, shares with the audience her expression of colours and sound regarding her multi-cultural identity. She invites her listeners to join her journey where she stretches the limits of voice. The band offers a constant balance between pushing the existed limits of improvisation and staying within them while preserving aesthetic texture of voice and instruments playing the sound of now.

Hila Hutmacher – Voice
Joel Metz – Sax
Katja HyunJung Piano
Omer Govreen Bass
Roope Kantonen – Drums
