Event description
Sunday Morning Service at Iona Abbey

About this event

We look forward to welcoming you to our Sunday Morning Service at Iona Abbey.

Holy Communion

The service usually includes an ecumenical service of Holy Communion, to which all are welcome.

Church and Cloisters

There is a cap on numbers at present, so when the Abbey Church reaches its capacity under the current Covid rules, those who arrive after the capacity is reached will be invited to participate in worship in the cloisters, where a speaker system relays the sound. Chairs, service sheets and hymnbooks are provided and the elements of Holy Communion are brought to everyone.

The entrance is through the main gate to the Abbey grounds from the road. The gate will be opened 30 minutes before the service begins and your details checked for NHS Test & Protect. You will be led down the path to the Abbey Church in time for the service. At the end of the service, you will be led back through the gate.

Please arrive early to allow time to make your way from the gate to the Abbey Church in time for the service.

If we don't see you at the gate by the time the service is due to start, we may give your seat to someone on the waiting list.

You will need to

  • wear a face covering inside the Abbey
  • sanitise your hands before entering the Abbey
  • sit in the designated seats
  • maintain a two metre distance from other households in the Abbey
  • use the one-way system for moving around the church
  • leave within 15 minutes of the service ending

One-way system

You will be able to walk around the one-way system inside the Abbey at the end of the service and stop to pray or to light a candle in the Quiet Corner before making your way out through the main entrance door and back to the gate.

Service sheets or Abbey Worship Books are provided (and quarantined for future use) and there is a collection for the work of the Iona Community, including a contactless card payment system.

Alcohol-free and gluten-free options are available during communion: please indicate on your booking if you would prefer these.

Braille Worship Books are available: please let us know if you would like to use one when you book.

There is a loop system for those with hearing aids.

Step-free access is available. Please let us know when you book.

Deadline for booking

Booking is not possible within three hours of the start of the service; please come to the gate. If there is space, we will take your details and you will be welcome at the service.

We look forward to seeing you at our Sunday service.
