Sundream: Acting & Theatre Workshop - Introduction
Join us for a fun-filled and practical workshop exploring the world of acting and theatre!
Whether you're a seasoned performer or you're new to performing, this is a workshop for you. People participate at the level that suits them and will start gently with fun games and creative exploration to ease you in. Great if you want to build confidence, try something new or simply come and have a good time!
The workshop is focused on improvisation, games and creating and performing chracters that we come up with on the day. This means we will not use scripts and there will be no reading or writing required. All you have to do is just turn up on the day and be keen to get involved.
What is Sundream?
Sundream is a programme of free creative activities taking place in Jaywick and Clacton throughout the summer of 2025 exploring the local coast’s past, present and future and what it’s like to live here. The workshops and activities are for anyone who wants to connect with others, learn a new skill or just get creative.
A new original play
All of these activities will lead to Wise Ram Theatre creating a brand new original play, set in Jaywick taking place during a scorching hot summer. The play will be performed at Jaywick Martello Tower at a Celebration Event Saturday 13th September for the very first time. The celebration event will also feature 2 local writers' new monologues, performed by professional actors.
What will the play you’re making be like?
Ah! Good question. We don’t know yet.
All we know is that it will be set during a heatwave, take place in Jaywick and a large whale will wash up on the beach. But we don’t know who the characters are, what will happen OR what genre it will be. That we need your help to decide.

Detailed access information about Jaywick Martello Tower
Jaywick Martello Tower can be reached by both walking and by car. There is parking available directly outside the Tower. The pathway to the entrance of the Tower is made up of wooden sleepers which can sometimes become slippery in adverse weather and can be a bit bumpy.
The entrance to the Tower is through a low doorway (approx. 1.55m) and passage which continues for 2.2m which will require ducking to walk through. There is an alternative entrance around the back of the Tower which is taller but is reached by 15 steps with handrail.
Inside the Tower, the event space is accessible by 14 steps with handrail or platform lift. The platform lift is suitable for wheelchair users or those unsteady on their feet who can comfortably move to sit on a chair on the lift but may not be suitable for larger mobility scooters.
There is one WC located at the back of the building that is accessible and available for anyone to use. There is a key on the front desk that a member of staff can provide to access and will assist with opening the door if needed.
Thank you to our funders
