The Boscobel Quartet

Four friends with a shared passion for the golden age of the string quartet and a desire to bring it alive again for audiences today, the Boscobelles are all respected period instrumentalists with a collective wealth of international performing experience. When an opportunity arose to draw this together in a chamber ensemble, they leapt at it. Their historic name, borrowed from the oak tree in which King Charles II hid from the Roundheads in 1651, reflects the beautiful wood of their original instruments as well as playfully alluding to the Royal Oak venue of their London debut in October 2016, where they returned for a sell-out performance in November 2017. Summer 2017 also saw them visit Wales, Worcester and Herefordshire, garnering repeat invitations to all. 2018 has so far included performances in Cambridge and London, as well as Haydn’s Seven Last Words in Worcester Cathedral.
