Super Science Saturday

Join the Institute of Physics, supported by the Royal Society of Chemistry and Brecon High School for a Festival of Science.

Super Science Saturday will include: Harry Potter – Science or Magic?, Frozen! and Science Made Simple, where families and friends together with primary and secondary teachers will enjoy sharing and networking opportunities.

During the lunch break we will hold The Great Science Share: Join the Royal Society of Chemistry, the Institute of Physics for hands on activities and demonstrations.

Bring your own science demonstrations to share with others.

Refreshments will be available.

Bydd digwyddiadau ‘Hud Gwyddoniaeth’ yn cynnwys: Harry Potter -Gwyddoniaeth neu Hud?, Rhewi! a Science Made Simple lle gall teuluoedd a ffrindiau ynghyd ag athrawon cynradd ac uwchradd fwynhau cyfleoedd rhwydweithio a rhannu syniadau.

Yn ystod yr egwyl cinio byddwn yn cynnal Y Cyfraniad Gwyddoniaeth Mawr: Ymunwch gyda y Gymdeithas Gemeg Frenhinol a disgyblion o Ysgol Uwchradd Aberhonddu.

‘Harry Potter - Science or Magic?’ - Edward Male, Henry Tudor School KS2 KS3 KS4

In this presentation we will deconstruct the science show “Harry Potter Science or magic?”. The aim is to provide practical ideas for either your own science show or added engagement in your science lessons. Practical demonstrations of spells such as Wingardium Leviosa, Evanesco and Incendio. A session full of explosive fun, magical science and green screen wonders.

Yn y cyflwyniad hwn byddwn yn dadadeiladu’r sioe wyddoniaeth “Harry Potter Science or magic?”. Y nod yw darparu syniadau ymarferol naill ai ar gyfer eich sioe wyddoniaeth eich hun neu ymgysylltiad ychwanegol yn eich gwersi gwyddoniaeth. Science Made Simple - It’s Only Water... or is it?

In this interactive show we help you dive a little deeper, to think about what water is made from and all the amazing things it can do!

From absorbing water, to dissolving chemicals in it, you can squash, freeze and heat water to do all sorts of things. Its properties really are extraordinary.

Using lots of demonstrations and volunteers, our presenters will help you recognise and name properties of water – freezing, boiling, melting, condensing, dissolving and evaporating and will talk about the states of matter – solid, liquid and gas.-

Science Made Simple - Dim ond Dŵr Yw e... neu ydy e?

Yn y sioe ryngweithiol hon, rydym yn eich helpu i blymio ychydig yn ddyfnach, i feddwl am yr hyn y mae dŵr wedi'i wneud ohono a'r holl bethau anhygoel y gall eu gwneud!

O amsugno dŵr, i doddi cemegau ynddo, gallwch chi wasgu, rhewi a chynhesu dŵr i wneud pob math o bethau. Mae ei briodweddau wir yn eithriadol.

Gan ddefnyddio llawer o arddangosiadau a gwirfoddolwyr, bydd ein cyflwynwyr yn eich helpu i adnabod ac enwi priodweddau dŵr - rhewi, berwi, toddi, cyddwyso, hydoddi ac anweddu a byddant yn siarad am gyflyrau mater - solid, hylif a nwy.

The Science of Ice Cream by Physics in the Freezer

Join Physics in the Freezer for some low temperature Physics with a tasty twist!

Making ice cream at home is hard to master and we will be exploring some of the science needed to create perfect frozen desserts. The show includes making ice cream in front of your eyes using liquid nitrogen – a magical substance that boils at -196oC, which can freeze things almost instantly…Suitable for young scientists of all ages, particularly 8 years and older.Please note that a limited number of portions of ice cream will be available, and ice cream tasting may not be suitable for people with some types of allergies

Mae'r sioe yn cynnwys gwneud hufen iâ o flaen eich llygaid gan ddefnyddio nitrogen hylifol - sylwedd hudolus sy'n berwi ar -196oC, a all rewi pethau bron yn syth… Addas ar gyfer gwyddonwyr ifanc o bob oed, yn enwedig 8 oed a hŷn.
