Super Stories : Using Interactive Stories to Support Communication
Overview
Stories are a great way of sharing information and experiences, developing language and emotions, and stimulating curiosity and imagination! By taking stories ‘off the page’ and making them interactive, children can have a go at joining in and sharing their own ideas. Run by speech and language therapists, this is a practical course where we will share lots of examples with participants, alongside the techniques which support engagement and promote communication skills.
The training will allow practitioners to:
• understand why narrative and storytelling is an important skill
• discuss and understand how interactive stories can help develop children’s communication
• identify communication development strategies that can be used in stories
• have a go at telling an interactive story
• consider ways to make stories accessible to children with communication differences
• explore ways to use this approach in their setting and where to find resources.
