Celebrating the National Poetry Day theme of ‘PLAY’, this interactive session helps students stretch their imaginations, take creative risks, and write metaphors that stick in the reader’s mind.What’s Included:
- A fast-paced, engaging workshop exploring what makes a metaphor truly original and effective.
- Focus on avoiding clichés and using metaphor to connect emotionally with a reader.
- Modelled writing of a 10-line poem, step by step, with plenty of support and space for creativity.
- By the end of the session, every pupil will have created a poem they’re proud to perform or share.
Literacy and Learning Focus:Rooted in the EEF guidance for improving literacy, this workshop supports:
- Purposeful speaking and listening, with opportunities to think aloud, share ideas, and hear how others craft language.
- Collaborative discussion to develop thinking, vocabulary, and confidence.
- Pre-writing talk and structured modelling to support planning and creativity.
- Explicit vocabulary teaching, with chances to play with and apply new words in imaginative ways.
