About this event

Did you know that corrosion and icing are very pressing issues for aerospace and marine industries? Researchers all around the world are constantly trying to develop new materials and techniques to address these issues. Superhydrophobic (water repellent) coatings are considered as a viable solution to solve the corrosion, it can turn increase the life cycle of the submerged equipment’s or structures. Join this session to learn more!

Superhydrophobic and Icephobic surface for Marine and Aerospace Industries

Live Session: 16th June from 2.15pm-3.00pm

Intended for: KS3 & KS4

Curriculum Links: Science/Engineering

Delivered: Live session delivered via Zoom

Description: Icing has been a problem for aircraft industries from the start of the aerospace industries. Around 70 % of the aircraft crashes are due to the in-flight/ ground icing. The current method used to solve this problem not only costs more but is also detrimental to the environment. A properly engineered structure with an icephobic coating not only solves both the problem but also makes flight safer in all aspect. In this session, we will look at how suitable engineering processes can address icing & corrison issues, along with a video demonstration of how to handle these ongoing engineering problems. Followed by Q and A session from the students.
