Supermarkets vs The Independent Wine Workshop
Mon 16 January 2017, 19:00 – 21:00 GMT
So have you managed to avoid a New Year's Resolution or are you still considering one?
With any luck it's a sensible one along the lines of drinking better wine or finding out a bit more about wine rather than having a dry January. Whatever the case, come and join us next Monday 16 January for a bit of an Independent vs The Supermarket battle.
Do you find yourself choosing your wines at the supermarket; reaching for the latest offer or finding something specifically to match the ingredients you've just placed in your trolley? Alternatively will you wander into your local independent wine shop; gazing at the shelves packed from floor to ceiling with interesting bottles then chat chapter and verse on each creation with the manager?
On Monday 16 January we'll take you to both the supermarket and independent; comparing some classic wines from each to see what's available and perhaps on offer locally around Edinburgh. We'll be comparing the quality as well as price differentiation and everyone can cast their votes. Will this challenge your wine buying approach in future? We'll also be looking at some food pairings and highlight interesting ways to improve the perception of some lesser quality wines.
Part way through we'll have a break for some fabulous charcuterie from Hammond Charcuterie - a wonderful artisan (female) butcher producing handmade innovative charcuterie.
We'll start at 7pm with a glass of something interesting, followed by tasting and comparing at least six wines, finishing at 9pm. There will also be some other nibbles with the charcuterie to enjoy.
Please join us for what will undoubtedly be an interesting and highly entertaining evening. Bring some friends or come on your own – what better way to start the week?
