Wednesday 18th September 2024 - This Supermoon promises to be an extraordinary celestial spectacle, captivating sky gazers and nature enthusiasts alike. During this phenomenon, the moon will be at its closest point to Earth in its elliptical orbit, appearing larger and brighter than usual. This unique occurrence, scientifically known as a perigee-syzygy, creates a stunning visual display that enhances the allure of the night sky.

As the radiant Supermoon graces the heavens, its luminosity will cast a soft, enchanting glow across landscapes, creating an almost magical ambiance. The moon's surface features, typically obscured, will be more pronounced, providing a breath-taking opportunity for stargazers and photographers to witness the celestial beauty up close.

To enhance this experience, Boot Routes have arranged a guided night walk, allowing participants to immerse themselves in the tranquil ambiance of the moonlit night. Our guide will also share some fascinating insights into this lunar phenomenon, offering a deeper understanding of the science behind the Supermoon.

Overall, the Supermoon event on September 18, 2024, promises to be a magical evening filled with wonder, awe, and a deep connection to the cosmos—a celestial celebration that invites everyone to bask in the extraordinary beauty of the moon at its most splendid.

Why not join us for a guided moon lit walk, taking in the sounds and sights of the night, which should take us 2 -3 hours. We will look at how we can navigate using the stars, and identify the most common winter constellations including Orion and Ursa Major.

Our experienced and friendly guide will also discuss nocturnal wildlife and explain our chosen conservation project Trees for Life. We will also look at light pollution, what effects it has on nature and what we can do to help.

Please dress sensibly, sturdy boots, warm clothing, waterproofs, a decent head torch and camera or phone are essential items.

Cost is only £20 per person, with a Tree for Life planted for each paying person. We’ll then take a steady walk up the Pennine Way to the summit of Black Hill. We’ll watch the sunset over to the West at 19.14 hrs then the moon rise to the East at 19.25 hrs, which should appear a lot bigger and a lot brighter than normal.

Meet our guide at 18.00 hrs at Snoopy’s car park, A635, Greenfield Road, Holmfirth. What 3 words ///rattled.housework.deflate
