Supervising a Masters Project: Part 1
Event Information
About this Event
This workshop is designed to help postgraduate researchers and research staff prepare for undertaking supervision of a CSEE Masters student project. This initial workshop will help you understand the context of this opportunity and support you in preparing a project proposal.
The event is open to University of Surrey Research Staff and Doctoral Researchers.
By the end of the session you will:
• Be aware of the roles and responsibilities of a PGR, a Post-doctoral and academic project supervisor.
• Understand the support you will have if you undertake project supervision.
• Appreciate the benefit of this opportunity to your professional development.
• Learn how to devise a project sufficient in scale and scope for an MSc project.
• Create an initial summary of a project you would be interested in supervising.
Pre-Work: Prior to the workshop could you please answer the following questions, using just one or two sentences.
Thinking of an MSc project you would like to supervise (if multiple, please just focus on one)
1) What is the overall research question/problem or content for this project? (Why is it important to address this issue?)
2) What approach will be used? (How will the student address the problem?)
3) What will the overall benefit of the outcome be? (So what? How will the work the student does move the field forward?)
Note:
Supervising a Masters Project: Part 1 – writing retreat
