Friendly and informal evening Darkroom Sessions, help and guidance available for you to develop film or make prints from your negatives.

About this event

Come to one of our popular Supported Darkroom Sessions! Ruth Jacobs will help you gain confidence in the Darkrooms and improve printing and processing skills. Book in for the evening to develop your film or make prints from your negatives - Ruth is available throughout the session for help and advice.

Learn how to make up printing chemistry so that you can use the Darkrooms independently.

Numbers of participants limited to ensure social distancing. We want to keep you safe at all times and we advise face coverings to be worn.

Maximum 6 participants, £30 per session includes photographic paper and darkroom chemistry. Please bring your own film to develop. Any black and white film is fine, except XP2 which uses colour technology not available at the Darkrooms.

FAQs

How are you keeping the Darkrooms Covid safe?

We have improved our ventilation during lockdown and keep all our surfaces sanitised. Tutors will wear face visors and workshop participants are asked to wear masks; please bring your own. Gloves, soap, hand sanitiser and wipes are available at the Darkrooms. Surfaces and equipment are cleaned before and after every session.

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?

Participants should be aged 16 and over

What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?

Parking at St Pauls Learning Centre is limited, however, you can park on quiet streets nearby free of charge after 5pm. There are regular bus services along Stokes Croft, a short walk away, and the No.5 goes along nearby City Rd through St Pauls.

What should I bring with me to the sessions?

Please bring your own negatives to print from, film to process and / or any photography project material you would like help with. You can develop any black & white film at the Darkrooms, except XP2, which uses colour processing.

Can you accommodate medium format?

Yes, we have the facilities for you to develop your medium format film and print from medium format negatives.

What's the refund policy?

You can have a full refund up to 7 days before the workshop, and a refund after that if your place on the session can be sold to another participant before the start date. Eventbrite's booking fee is non-returnable, sorry!

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

Please bring proof of registration on paper, phone or tablet

Is it ok if the name on my ticket or registration doesn't match the person who attends?

Please don't pass your ticket on to someone else unless you are buying it as a present.

Organiser of Supported Darkroom Sessions

The Real Photography Community Interest Company incorporated in July 2017, is a group of Bristol-based photographers reviving and refreshing traditional photography in Bristol and beyond. We organise and promote creative workshops, courses and projects based at community Darkrooms at St Pauls Learning Centre, and engage the photography community in events, discussions, exhibitions and other opportunities. Our Darkrooms are currently closed and our Alternative Photography Summer School includes activities you can try at home, and a series of free Online Workshops.
