Description

Supported Learning Curriculum - Preparing Young People with Learning Difficulties for Adulthood

The Department for Education wants all providers to shift their emphasis from educational attainment, in terms of qualifications and levels, to life outcomes that ensure the young person is able to lead a happy, prosperous and independent life. There is a strong focus on the importance of working with young people and their families to understand their long-term aspirations, and then to build an education programme that will enable them to achieve these.

The objectives should link to the key areas set out in the code:

  • Employment
  • Community
  • Health
  • Independent Living

There were best practice examples of successful education programmes highlighted throughout the day, with a strong focus on the positive outcomes achieved through study programmes, particularly supported internships.

At Open Awards we have been working hard to ensure that our qualification offer links to these areas in order to help providers work with young people toward their goals.

This workshop will give you examples of best practice curriculum and give you first look at some of Open Awards new qualifications that have been specifically designed with the Preparation for Adulthood agenda in mind. There will also be an opportunity for networking with education professionals to share creative ideas and discuss any gaps in provision.

Topics that will be discussed on the day include:

  • Independent Travel Training
  • Supported Internships
  • Skills for Further Learning and Employment
  • Independent Living
  • Functional Skills
  • Science
