About this event

  • Event lasts 7 hours

This in-person training will help you gain skills and confidence in communicating with families when a child is not expected to live and will provide a deeper understanding of families’ needs and the difficulties they may face from diagnosis onwards.

Who is this training for?

This training is suitable for individuals whose work brings them into contact with families anticipating the death of a child, for example: health and social care staff, hospice staff, faith leaders, emergency service personnel, and charities.

What will I learn?

During this training, you will:

  • Gain an understanding of preparing and supporting families when having difficult conversations when a child or young person is expected to die.
  • Explore ways of supporting families in coming to terms with a terminal diagnosis.
  • Explore ways of supporting families when a good death is not achieved.
  • Provide a space for discussion around when a good death is not achieved and around the Child Death Review process.
  • Develop an awareness of the challenges of the work and the importance of looking after yourself.
  • Receive information about Child Bereavement UK and other support organisations, and resources available.

Please also note we will send out a prerequisite training pack prior to this training day which will need to be completed before attending.

Before booking on any training, please read our training terms and conditions. We encourage prospective participants to consider their own experience of loss and how it might affect them during training. Our training may not be suited to someone who has experienced a recent bereavement.
