About this event

This 3-hour interactive online workshop will explore the experience of bereavement for children and young people and what is needed to support them in their grief.

Learning outcomes

You will:

  • Increase your awareness of how children and young people understand and respond to loss, death and bereavement, across all the age ranges.
  • Gain an understanding of the theories of loss and grieving in relation to children and young people.
  • Develop knowledge of practical strategies and gain greater confidence in supporting bereaved children and young people.
  • Explore your own experiences of loss and the potential impact of this when observing the grief of others.
  • Gain information about Child Bereavement UK, other support organisations and resources that can support bereaved families.

All those whose work brings them into contact with grieving children and young people, in whatever capacity.

Who is presenting?

Ann Chalmers, Chief Executive, Child Bereavement UK

Ann has been involved in multi-disciplinary training of professionals in the area of loss and bereavement for over twenty-five years. She holds a BACP Accredited Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling and a University Accredited Diploma in Bereavement Counselling, and has provided counselling for individuals, couples and staff within the NHS and for children and young people within the voluntary sector. She joined Child Bereavement UK in 1996 and has been involved in all aspects of the charity’s training, consultancy and service development work. She has contributed to a number of professional publications and books, and has presented nationally and internationally for the charity. .
