A 3-hour interactive online workshop from Child Bereavement UK to explore the impact of grief and bereavement in schools.

About this event

This 3-hour interactive online workshop from Child Bereavement UK will explore the impact of grief and bereavement in schools, recognising the important role of a school in providing a supportive environment.

This session will focus on:

• understanding the impact of loss and grief on children and young people's physical and emotional health, including their learning

• children and young people's reactions to loss and grief, and how a school might respond to meet the needs of grieving pupils

• strategies for pastoral support appropriate to the age and developmental stage of the pupils

• the importance of creating a creating a bereavement aware culture within school, and the implementation of a robust bereavement policy or charter

• a range of resources and support information to establish a ‘bereavement tool kit’ for your school/setting.

Who should attend?

Professionals working in schools or early years settings including teachers, teaching assistants, keyworkers, members of a welfare or pastoral support team, SENCo, others directly supporting bereaved young people as well as senior leaders, governors and policy makers.

Who is presenting?

Tracey Boseley, National Development Lead for the Education Sector, Child Bereavement UK

Tracey qualified as a teacher following an early career as a research scientist with experience of running school outreach and mentoring schemes. She taught across the primary phase, specialising in supporting vulnerable pupils and their families, including young people with autism.

In 2018, Tracey joined Child Bereavement UK as the National Development Lead for the Education Sector. This role at the charity includes raising awareness of bereavement within the sector, training and supporting education professionals, designing online resources, and presenting at national and local events.

In addition to face to face training for the education sector, Tracey has also delivered bereavement training webinars which have been attended by over 18000 education professionals.

Our training is based on learning from families, is underpinned by relevant theory and evidence-based practice, and acknowledges the importance of appropriate communication and support for future wellbeing.
