Grassroots Suicide Prevention for Croydon

Welcome to our in-person event where we'll be discussing all things related to suicide prevention in Croydon. Join us for an informative and interactive workshop, and a chance to connect with like-minded individuals who are passionate about supporting vulnerable young people who are struggling with mental health.

This course takes a trauma-informed, recovery, strength-based approach to suicide prevention.

By the end of the day, you will be able to:

  • Examine some of your attitudes about suicide
  • Explain what being trauma-informed means in this context
  • List a range of factors that might increase the risk of suicide in young people
  • Discuss the validity of suicide-risk screening tools
  • Identify potential warning signs that a young person might be at risk of suicide
  • Discuss the principles of working with a YP to prevent suicide
  • List potential barriers to stable engagement and ways of addressing these
  • Determine appropriate levels of support and deploy appropriate technology such as the Stay Alive app
  • Practice engaging a young person in a conversation about suicide using a framework
  • Collaborate with a young person to help them develop a safety plan using a scenario
  • Discuss the impact of such work and construct ways of increasing staff resilience

Light refreshments will be available, you will be required to bring your lunch.
