Supporting Children with Visuals at Home: SALT and OT Perspectives
Overview
Join us for this insightful webinar exploring the vital role of visual supports in enhancing communication and learning at home. Hosted by our new Educational Content Leads for Speech and Language Therapy (Ella McKenzie) and Occupational Therapy (Megan McDonald), this session aims to explain how visuals can bridge communication gaps, support understanding and promote independence for all children - particularly those with additional needs.
Visual supports, such as symbols, visual timetables and now/next boards are essential tools for structuring routines, reducing anxiety and reinforcing key concepts across the curriculum. Our expert speakers will draw on real-world experience from both clinical and educational contexts to explain how visuals can be effectively integrated in every day situations at home.
The webinar will explore the impact of visuals on children with speech, language and communication needs (SLCN), autism and sensory processing differences. You'll gain practical strategies for using visuals to support attention, memory, transitions and emotional regulation. The session will also touch on the importance of collaboration between educators, therapists and families to ensure consistency and effectiveness.
