Event description
A short information based session for parents to help support the mental health and wellbeing of children & young people

About this event

We are aware more than ever that our young people’s mental health is crucially important. This hour long session provides an insight into Mental Health, Self Harm and Suicide it is designed as an introduction for parents and carers or anyone who works with young people.

The session aims for participants to;

  • What do we mean by mental health?
  • Myths and facts about mental health, self-harm and suicide
  • Tips on talking to young people
  • What support and resources are available to help?

The majority of mental health issues develop during our formative adolescent years, making it crucial for parents and care givers to be well informed and equipped to better support the growing emotional and mental health needs of children and young people.

This online session is delivered on zoom by our dedicated and experienced suicide prevention trainers. Participants also receive a PDF post course handbook.

What our participants had to say:

" Thanks for an excellent presentation. Very helpful and helped ground the topics. Will follow up through resources etc."
"Thank you. that was really informative and clearly delivered"
"It has been a great session thanks so much will recommend to others"

Organiser Every Life Matters

Organiser of Supporting children's mental health and wellbeing

Every Life Matters strives to take a fresh, innovative and long term approach to suicide prevention and suicide bereavement support in Cumbria - a county that has had suicide rates well above the national average for too many years. At the heart of our approach to suicide prevention is the belief that all members of our local community can have a part to play in suicide prevention. Our training aims to reduce the stigma attached to suicide, increase understanding of when someone is at risk of suicide, raise awareness of how to practically support someone, and the range of services and resources available for people in our communities experiencing suicidal thoughts.
