Supporting deaf students in post-16 settings: a training day for Teachers o...
Wed 12 July 2017, 09:30 – 17:00 BST
Are you a Teacher of the Deaf who needs to better understand how to support post-16 students?
Since the Children and Families Act 2014 local authorities are responsible for supporting young people with SEN and disabilities up to 25. This means sensory support services have a greater role in supporting deaf students in further education.
Our one-day workshop, devised for Teachers of the Deaf will help you ensure that deaf young people are given the best possible support in post-16 settings such as further education colleges and apprenticeships. You’ll have the opportunity to discuss how to adapt to meet the needs of post-16 students and to develop a stronger understanding of the post-16 education context.
- Understanding the range of post-16 providers that exist
- Differences in supporting post-16 students compared with under-16s
- The content of 16-19 study programmes including Maths and English
- Supporting young people on apprenticeships
- Information and advice on supporting an effective transition to post-16 education and employment
*We use the term ‘deaf’ to describe all young people with a hearing loss from mild to profound.
