This course will be delivered by Graham Chatterley, Graham has 20 years professional experience working across Primary, Secondary, SEMH and PMLD as Teacher, Trainer, Consultant and Headteacher. Graham also has 13 years of personal experience of being a SEND parent of a child with multiple complex needs including PDA
What will be covered
The course will take a solutions focused look at demand avoidant behaviour
- Explore common behaviours associated with Trauma, ADHD, Autism and Pathological Demand Avoidance
- Look at some of the myths that surround them through a child development lense
- Co-regulation/De-escalation strategies to prevent crisis
- The link between anxiety and demand avoidance
- Effective prevention and proactive strategies to avoid/lesson the demand avoidance
- Communication and practical strategies to reduce the behaviour
- Combatting shame and building self-esteem
